Fire razes federal college of education in Enugu
The Federal College of Education in Eha-Amufu, Enugu State, had its Exams and Records and Procurement divisions destroyed by fire on Monday night.
Allegations of sabotage have been raised in response to the incident, which apparently happened without electricity and without a nearby bushfire.
According to college sources, the building—which also housed the Integrated Science Lab, the Governing Council Chambers, and the Center for Educational Technology—was totally destroyed.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a staff member claimed that the fire was intentionally started to thwart pending petitions before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“I can tell you categorically that the building was burned down because of several petitions to the EFCC, ICPC, and the Federal Ministry of Education regarding the criminal diversion of college vehicles and embezzlement of funds,” the source alleged.
The employee noted that there were concerns that confidential records required for possible prosecution were targeted because the provost's position was just offered.
