Fire razes Lagos building, kills 3-year-old boy
Over the weekend, a fire in the Ejigbo neighbourhood of Lagos State destroyed a building, killing a three-year-old kid named Michael.
Media reports state that a lit candle in one of the rooms at 5 Olorunsogo Street started the fire, which destroyed houses worth millions of naira and raised tensions in the Ejigbo area late on Saturday night.
On Sunday, March 3, 2024, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, verified the event and the boy's death.
Hundeyin said, “At about 23:hours on 2/3/2024, a report was received at Ejigbo Police Station that fire broke out at 5 Olorunsogo Street Ejigbo. It was reported that the fire was caused by a candle that was lit, which later melted in one of the rooms.
“The room caught fire and it spread to ten other rooms in the compound. As a result of the fire, one child, Micheal, a 3-year-old son of one Ayo was burnt to death completely.”
But emergency personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Service removed the burned corpse of the dead youngster from the scene.
