FLOOD: Tinubu donates N40m to victims

On Sunday, All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave N40 million to flood victims in Edo.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the flooding in Edo's Etsako Central, Etsako East, and Esan Southeast Local Government Areas resulted in the displacement of about 32,893 people.

On behalf of Tinubu, the former governor of Edo, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, handed the funds at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Oghomere in the Etsako Central Local Government Area.

According to Oshiomhole, the funds are for residents of the three local government districts whose homes, farms, and other property were ruined by the flooding.

He claims that the hardest hit area, Etsako Central, will receive N20 million, Etsako East N12 million, and Esan Southeast N8 million.

“Tinubu wanted to come by himself, but the helicopter he wanted to use had a problem and couldn’t come, but because of the urgency to help the flood victims, he said I should represent him.

"Etsako Central, which has over 19,061 impacted people, receives N20 million; Etsako East, which has 7,742 affected people, receives N12 million; and Esan Southeast, which has over 6,000 victims, receives N8 million.

Oshiomhole, who is running for the Edo North senate seat, vowed Tinubu's commitment to addressing the flood issue by building dams to absorb water discharged at the Lagdo Dam in neighbouring Cameroon for agricultural irrigation.

"Tinubu said you should vote for him so as to be able to perpetually solve the problem of flood in the country.

“He said I should tell you people that he would build a dam that would be used to collect the water released from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon, if you vote for him.

"He also urged the people to vote for all APC candidates at the forthcoming elections so as to get more dividends of democracy.

“You people know what I did for you when I was the governor and I want you to also vote for me to go to the Senate and you will get more,’’ Oshiomhole said.

Alhaji Waziri Oshiomah, a community leader, responded on behalf of the villages and thanked Tinubu for the donation while assuring him of the support of the populace.
