William Troost-Ekong, an Al-Ahli star and former captain of the Super Eagles, has converted to Islam.

According to a report published on Wednesday by the Qatari newspaper "Al-Arab," Troost-Ekong recited the Shahadah in Doha, Qatar, where he plays for the Qatar Stars League team Al-Ahli.

Dr. Muhammad Salah, a reputable Islamic cleric, also posted a video of the defender reciting the testimonies on his verified Facebook page.

The 33-year-old defender initially relocated to the Arab world in the summer of 2024 when he joined Al-Khaleej of Saudi Arabia.

He signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the Qatari team Al-Ahli in January 2026, and since then, he has participated in 14 games across all competitions, including one this season.

Between 2015 and 2025, Ekong scored eight goals while earning 83 caps for Nigeria on the international scene.

He advanced to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final in Côte d'Ivoire, where he won the title of best player.

Troost-Ekong established himself as one of Nigeria's most seasoned defenders of the previous ten years by representing the nation at the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup.

He made almost 70 appearances for the Super Eagles throughout his illustrious international career.
