At Power Line Bus Stop, Ikola, in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, a dispute allegedly turned into communal strife on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of four persons.

Our correspondent was informed by a resident who wished to remain anonymous that the argument originated from a quarrel between a man suspected of being the leader of a cult organization and a northerner.

"What I know right now is that a Northerner stabbed a former leader of a cult group," the community source stated. Police officers from the Meiran Division had to request reinforcement because this move started the riot.

“I can verify that one person is confirmed dead, with rumours of about three more deaths.”

Four persons were murdered in the altercation, according to a statement released on Thursday by Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.

He continued by saying that a number of people were also hurt during the incident, albeit to varying degrees.

Oke-Osanyintolu claims that the agency dispatched its response team after receiving a distress call at 1:52 pm regarding a fire outbreak in the region. The crew arrived at the location approximately twenty-five minutes later.

“Preliminary assessment and engagement with residents at the scene indicate that the incident followed a disagreement that escalated into communal unrest.

“Regrettably, four adult males lost their lives and several others sustained various degrees of injuries,” the agency said.

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, the Agbado Oke-Odo Ambulance Service, and other medical professionals gave injured victims emergency medical attention, he continued, while many temporary buildings were destroyed in the subsequent incident.
