Four passengers in the Kaduna train released after 119 days of abduction
Four people who were kidnapped during a railway raid in Kaduna have been freed.
The passengers were released on Monday. They were among the many hostages who were taken on March 28.
The development was confirmed by Tukur Mamu, Ahmad Gumi's assistant who has participated in negotiations for the detainees' release.
The news comes after a video of the detainees being whipped circulated a few hours earlier.
The kidnappers threatened to kidnap Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna, and President Muhammadu Buhari in the video, which quickly gained popularity on social media.
In the video, some of the victims were heard complaining that the federal government wasn't doing enough to secure their release. They also made an appeal for the intervention of the international community.
The president had, however, stated that security forces were working to ensure the victims' safe release.
Gladys Brumen, Oluwatoyin Ojo, Hassan Lawan, and Ayodeji Oyewumi were the identities of the four people, according to Mamu, who withheld the specifics of how the victims were freed on Monday.
With the four people being free, there are reportedly still more than 30 people held captive.
More than 20 people have so far been let free, some of whom reportedly paid millions of naira in ransom.
Abdulfatai Jimoh, the organizer of the group of abducted passengers' relatives, was unavailable for comment when reached by phone.
