Four UK healthcare workers imprisoned for abusing elderly patient
The BBC reports on Thursday that four healthcare professionals were sentenced to jail after they were seen on camera abusing an elderly patient physically and psychologically.
Danny Ohen and Bridget Aideyan were also found guilty of the same offences and given sentences of six months and four months, respectively, on November 14. Ame Tunkara and Morountaro Adefila were found guilty of ill-treatment and willful neglect and were sentenced to four months in prison on December 8.
The police disclosed that the 89-year-old woman, who suffered from vascular dementia and was mute, was observed by the staff being physically abusive.
After observing bruises on her arm in February 2020, the woman's family covertly installed a camera and secretly recorded footage over the course of four days.
It depicted the woman receiving rough treatment, being struck with a pillow, and not being treated with respect or decency.
A police official stated that "she should not have spent any of her remaining years suffering such ill-treatment" after the woman tragically passed away in October.
