'Friends' star actor Mathew Perry dies at 54
One of the stars of the popular sitcom "Friends," Matthew Perry, was discovered dead at his residence on Saturday, according to US media. 54 was his age.
According to law enforcement sources who spoke to the Los Angeles Times, first responders discovered Perry unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home and were unable to resuscitate him.
Citing unnamed sources, the LA Times and TMZ, who broke the story first, concurred that there were no indications of foul play.
The role that made Perry most famous was that of the witty Chandler Bing on the enormously successful NBC series "Friends," which aired for ten seasons between 1994 and 2004.
Perry had fought with alcohol and painkiller addiction for years, and he had frequently visited recovery centres.
In his biography "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing," which was released last year, Perry talked about spending over $9 million trying to get sober and going through detox 65 times.
Due to his drug use, Perry had health issues in 2018, including a burst colon that necessitated a seven-hour operation and the use of a colostomy bag for several months.
Perry stated in the preface, "I should be dead," and dedicated the book to "all of the sufferers out there."
No drugs were discovered at the location on Saturday, according to TMZ. It stated that Perry's aide located him and dialled 911.
Perry was raised in Canada prior to relocating to Los Angeles. His parents are Canadian and American. He was born in Massachusetts.
