Gas tanker catches fire in Lagos on Lagos highway
Following the prompt action of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), a potentially destructive fire was prevented on Friday when a leaking gas tanker caught fire in the Owode Elede neighborhood along Ikorodu Road in Lagos.
A six-tire small gas tanker experienced a mechanical malfunction while traveling inward through Ikorodu.
Officials found that the tanker was leaking pressurized gas during an emergency evaluation.
Later, the leaking gas caught fire, starting an inferno all around the car.
According to LASTMA, members of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and its Rescue and Recovery Team were dispatched to the spot right away.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, confirmed the incident and stated that the emergency responders launched a coordinated operation that quickly put out the fire, preventing it from growing into a significant conflagration that might have killed people, destroyed property, and damaged vital road infrastructure.
