Gbajabiamila mourns over death of Taraba member-elect
Isma'ila Maihanchi, a candidate for the House of Representatives from Taraba State's Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency, passed away early yesterday in Abuja following a brief illness. His age was 37.
In the most recent general elections, he defeated Kasimu Maigari, a member of the House of Representatives who had been elected in 2019 and won on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket.
His remains would be interred in accordance with Islamic customs later today, a family source told reporters. He leaves behind a wife, a son, and his parents.
Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, expressed sorrow over the passing.
Gbajabiamila described the news as upsetting and depressing and stated that given what little he had learned about the late Maihanci, he was prepared to tirelessly serve his people.
The speaker sent his sympathies to the family, residents, and administration of Taraba State, in particular to his Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency constituents.
In the same vein, Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, expressed his condolences to the people and administration of Taraba State for their loss.
He referred to the deceased member-elect as a brother and a friend, and he prayed for his spirit to rest in peace and that Allah would give his family and the Taraba State government the strength to endure the loss.
