Gov Adeleke appoints retired CSP Adekunle Omoyele as new Amotekun commander
Adekunle Omoyele, a retired Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), has been named by Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke as the new Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps.
The security outfit's founding commander, retired Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, steps down and is replaced by Omoyele.
The State Government's Secretary, Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye, signed a letter stating that Omoyele's appointment is effective as of Wednesday, July 3.
“In addition to your existing responsibility as the corps commander, Amotekun Security Network, you are expected to put to use the experience garnered during your remarkable years of active service.” the letter reads.
After 35 years of service, the new commander of Osun Amotekun departed from the Police Force in 2023. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Omoyele served as the governor's special adviser on internal security and local matters prior to his appointment.
According to NAN, the governors of the South-West collaborated to build the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun Corps, in 2020.
The security company was established to support other agencies in their attempts to combat criminal activity in the South West.
