As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wraps up the distribution process in advance of the August 15 governorship election, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared Tuesday to be a work-free day for public employees throughout the state to allow eligible residents to pick up their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

In a statement, Adeleke's spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, stated that local government employees and employees of higher education institutions are among the other groups of workers that are impacted.

Rasheed said “The Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina who conveyed the directive in a circular across the public service said the work-free day approval was to enable public servants perform their civic obligation during the forthcoming gubernatorial and future elections in the State.”

In order to prevent detrimental effects on citizens' lives, the circular advises individuals who perform vital tasks, such as medical personnel and security personnel, to make the required arrangements among themselves.

Governor Adeleke reminds the people that the election next month is crucial to the state and her future, and he calls on public employees and other unorganized workers to pick up their voter cards as soon as possible.
