Gov Akeredolu returns to Nigeria following three months medical leave
Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, has returned to Nigeria following a three-month medical leave in Germany.
According to information obtained by The Guardian, Akeredolu landed in the nation on Thursday afternoon via the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The governor had left the state's business in the hands of his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, after appointing him as acting governor in a letter to the House of Assembly in June while he had medical treatment in Germany.
Following his departure on a medical leave of absence overseas on April 3, Akeredolu travelled for 15 days, and on June 13 he transmitted power to Aiyedatiwa. On June 10, he then extended the medical leave indefinitely.
In a brief post on her social media accounts, the governor's wife, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, confirmed his arrival by posting a picture of her husband in private with the word "homebound."
According to information, Akeredolu will travel from Abuja via Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, before arriving in Ondo State.
A top source close to the governor also confirmed Akeredolu's arrival, saying that the governor's inner political circle will meet with him in Ibadan on Friday.
The source, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the politicians had gotten word to gather in Ibadan on Friday so they could meet the governor by 1:00 pm.
He said, “Not everyone with the government received the message. No one can even say the exact person who sent the message. It is when we get to Ibadan that we will know all those who have been invited.
“I must tell you, we’re so happy to receive Oga (Akeredolu) back. God is indeed on the throne.â€
The meeting will include every member of the state executive council and House of Assembly, according to a different source.
According to the source, Akeredolu will travel to Ondo State by the following week.
