Gov Mutfwang declares 24-hour curfew
Jos North and the state capital of Bukuru are under a 24-hour curfew, enforced by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang. According to him, the decision was made in an effort to uphold public order and improve life security.
This was said in a news release that was signed by Gyang Bere, the governor's director of press and public affairs.
It reads: “In a decisive move to enhance the security of lives and maintain public order, Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Jos/Bukuru Metropolis, effective from 12 midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024.”
The governor went on to say that after examining the activities of dishonest people who took advantage of the nationwide protest to terrorise defenceless civilians, the decision was made in consultation with the state security services.
Mutfwang noted that, “these criminal elements, armed with daggers, machetes, and other dangerous weapons, broke into shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction, looting foodstuffs and other valuable items.”
He underlined that the curfew served the interests of all citizens and asked everyone to abide by it completely in order to protect everyone's safety and wellbeing.
He gave the state's security services instructions to make sure the curfew was strictly enforced throughout Jos/Bukuru Metropolis.
“Those planning to unleash further terror on innocent citizens to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law”, he warned.
In order to avoid any possible disruptions to law and order, the governor also urged the pertinent security services to continue being watchful and aggressive in their tasks.
