Gov Mutfwang relaxes curfew in Mangu, Plateau State
In response to the recent attacks, the governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, loosened the 24-hour curfew that had previously been placed on the Mangu Local Government Area.
This was disclosed in a statement released by Mr. Gyang Bere, the governor's director of press and public affairs, on Friday in Jos.
The announcement said that the curfew would now be in effect every day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., until further notice.
The governor stated that there have been strategic discussions regarding the local security issue with religious and community leaders, and that this has led to an improvement in the security situation, which is why the review was conducted.
“Following remarkable improvement in the security situation and after due consultation with the State Security Council, the curfew has been relaxed.
“I hereby urge residents of Mangu to strictly observe the curfew and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
“We encourage the security personnel to enforce the curfew to avoid breakdown of law and order,†Mutfwang said.
After expressing gratitude to the locals for their cooperation thus far, the governor called on them to work together and assist the security forces in their efforts to create a tranquil and secure Plateau.
