Gov Oyebanji pays N5000 monthly allowance to 10,000 households

Governor Biodun Oyebanji yesterday announced the provision of free shuttle buses for workers and students as well as the payment of monthly allowances to designated households in an effort to mitigate the effects of the elimination of subsidies in Ekiti State.

In a statement from the commissioner for finance, Akintunde Oyebode, Oyebanji also gave his approval for the conditional cash transfer of N5,000 to 10,000 homes from August to December 2023, with a focus on the elderly.

The payment of one month's worth of pension arrears for retirees from state and local governments as well as the payment of one month's worth of subvention arrears to tertiary institutions are among the other items on the palliatives list.

According to the statement, the governor-appointed group recommended the palliatives as a way to start actions that would lessen the impact of the subsidy elimination.
