Governor Ododo orders security operatives to stop night arrest

Ahmed Usman Ododo, the governor of Kogi State, has ordered security forces to cease making arrests at night and issued a warning against breaking into residents' houses when it is dark.

In the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Lokoja, the Governor issued the order on Monday while speaking to elite traditional leaders.

He emphasised that security operations must be carried out in a legitimate, peaceful, and humanitarian manner and stated that the directive was meant to defend citizens' fundamental rights and dignity.

“No arrest should be made in the night. If you have any case against anybody, wait till daytime, follow due process, invite the person lawfully,” Ododo declared.

“We will not allow our people to be harassed, intimidated or picked up like criminals in the middle of the night.”

The governor assured the traditional rulers that his administration would not put up with power abuse and advised them to report any security personnel who disregarded the order.

Additionally, he praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his assistance to Kogi State, especially in the areas of security, infrastructure, and the prompt delivery of funds to allow governments to fulfilll their responsibilities.

Ododo claims that one of the most important examples of the Federal Government's dedication to the state's and the nation's growth is the ongoing repair of the Abuja-Lokoja-Okene-Benin highway.

He also commended the President for bolstering Nigeria's security framework and assisting local security efforts in Kogi, which he claimed had contributed to the restoration of calm in a number of towns.

Additionally, the Governor urged the traditional rulers to back the Chief of Army Staff, emphasising that shared responsibility was necessary for the country's security.

He recognised the sacrifices made by the royal fathers in preserving harmony throughout their realms, pointing out that many of them had done so via personal resources, counsel, and prayers.
