Governor Ortom expresses hope of alliance between Wike and Atiku
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said efforts to resolve the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are being made ahead of the 2023 election.
Ortom said he was approached by PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to reassure Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
He expressed hope that Wike would be pacified and work with Atiku to ensure the party returned to power in 2023.
Speaking with Arise TV on Thursday, the governor explained his relationship with Wike.
Ortom shared how Wike stood by him when Fulani herders besieged Benue State.
He said: "Efforts are being made to resolve the crisis in the party. Our presidential candidate contacted me to reassure Wike. Wike stood by my side at my worst when my state was under siege.
“I believe that working with Wike will help achieve a better result. Once Wike is reassured, I will be reassured too. It's not about our personal interests, it's about Nigeria.
“They will agree that Nigeria is under siege by a cabal that wants to enslave everyone.
“We have been brought from top to bottom; we need everybody to come together to see how we can rescue our country.â€
Wike is believed to be upset with Atiku and PDP leadership over the election of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the party's presidential nominee.
Atiku had ignored the recommendation of a committee he set up to select his running mate.
The committee had selected the Rivers helmsman, who finished second in the party's presidential primary, but Atiku chose Okowa.
