Gunmen kidnap 24 passengers in Benue, Makurdi road

At least 14 passengers have reportedly been kidnapped by gunmen in Benue State along the Makurdi/Naka/Adoka road area.

The event occurred Thursday between 10 and 11 a.m., approximately three kilometres from Naka, the Benue State Gwer West Local Government Area headquarters.

A commercial driver who wished to remain anonymous claimed that the vehicles involved were Sharon buses and a picnic, each of which had 12 passengers.

Yakubu Onu, the secretary of the National Union Roads of Transport Workers, High-Level Unit, confirmed the occurrence to our reporter over phone chat on Thursday, stating that the two commercial cars at High-Level Park, Makurdi, are the property of their members.

He claims that one of the cars was ambushed by gunmen near Naka on Thursday morning while it was leaving Makurdi on its way to Lokoja.

The second truck, travelling from Ankpa in Kogi state to Makurdi, was also attacked at the same location, he added.

Onu said, “The first vehicle was going to Lokoja with nine passengers on board and six of them abducted and taken to the bush.

“Second vehicle was coming from Ankpa and coming to Makurdi, eight passengers were abducted at the same spot near Naka.”
