Gunmen kill four officers, two others in Imo

Four police officers have been slain in a recent gun attack in Imo State, according to police officials.

In the South-Eastern state's Ngorokpala Local Government Area, two people were also slain along Okpala Junction.

In a statement to Channels Television, the Imo State Police Command confirmed the tragic death and stated that it occurred early on Friday.

According to Henry Okoye, the police's public relations officer, the event happened while the Mbaise/Ngorokpala Area Command's police unit was patrolling the neighbourhood.

According to reports, they were ambushed and attacked by gunmen who also engaged the police unit.

In the process, according to Okoye, two unarmed citizens died while four officers paid the ultimate price.

He claims that the State Police Command is in control of the situation and that men from the tactical team of the command have been sent to the area for a thorough search with the goal of apprehending the offenders and holding them accountable.

The police official also urged everyone to remain calm.

In recent months, attacks by gunmen have occurred across Imo.

Augustine Ukaegbu, a police inspector, was shot and killed by gunmen in Umuoshike Ogbor, in the state's Aboh-Mbaise LGA, a few days ago.

Following an ambush at the Obiangwu hamlet, Ngor-Okpala LGA, three officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were thought dead in March.
