Gunmen kill pastor, abduct 7 others in RCCG parish attack
In Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun, intrepid gunmen invaded a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) parish, killing the pastor and kidnapping seven churchgoers.
On Sunday in Abeokuta, Mr. Soji Ganzallo, Commander of the Ogun State So-Safe Corps, confirmed the terrible incident to newsmen.
Gonzallo said that during the rescue effort, soldiers from the corps killed one of the kidnappers in addition to freeing the seven church members.
The invasion took at around midnight on Saturday, according to a statement by Moruf Yusuf, the So-Safe Director of Information and Public Relations.
“The Owode-Egba Zonal Command of the corps, under Jimoh Omoniyi, received a distress call that some members of the RCCG, Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area were attacked during a vigil.
“Officers of the Corps were charged to go after the suspects to rescue the victims unhurt and the officers swung into action immediately,†he said.
While one of the kidnappers was dead, Ganzallo revealed that the seven victims were freed unharmed. He also claimed that many of the suspects were seriously damaged during a firefight.
He stated that a joint squad of the police and the So-Safe Corps was already pursuing the fleeing abductors in an effort to capture them alive.
The commander reported that a neighbouring morgue had received the body of the deceased kidnapper.
