Gunmen kill police officer, abduct two Chinese
According to reports, gunmen carried out a brutal operation at Quarry Camp in the Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River on Thursday night, shooting and killing an Inspector of Police and kidnapping two Chinese nationals.
In a statement released in Calabar and made available to reporters on Friday, SP Nelson Okpabi, the Police Public Relations Officer in charge of Zone 6, verified the occurrence. Okpabi added that in addition to the two Chinese, a Nigerian was also kidnapped.
The statement claims that the armed individuals, who were purportedly dressed in military camouflage, also stole the deceased officer's AK-47.
It added that the hoodlums gained entrance into the quarry “after a worker accidentally allowed a security breach at the gate”.
He said that Jonathan Towuru, the AIG in command of the zone, has mandated a comprehensive search for the armed assailants and promised that they will be held accountable.
“The Police hereby appealed to the people to be on the lookout and provide any useful information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators,” he stated.
