"He's a player born to score goals," Oduamadi hails Osimhen
Super Eagles winger Nnamdi Oduamadi believes in-form Napoli striker Victor Osimhen will score more goals for the senior team after his four-goal exploits against Sao Tome and Principe. Osimhen scored a brace in that encounter, becoming the fourth player in the history of the country's football, after Elkanah Onyeali, Rashidi Yekini and Oduamadi, to score four goals in a single game for the national team. "I've seen him (Osimhen) play for Napoli several times in Italy, he's a player born to score goals," Oduamadi declares. “He just needs good service to keep scoring. I'm happy for him and I hope he scores more goals. He's the best striker in the Eagles right now."
The former Torino striker added that the 23-year-old matched his nine-year run of four goals per game: "I watched the game and I was delighted that he scored that fourth goal after scoring his hat-trick. He's done well and if he takes his chances in games he'll beat that record in other games." Yekini still holds the record for most goals in Nigerian football history with 37 goals in 58 games while Osimhen is eighth on the list. Retired stars Segun Odegbami (23), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (21), Ike Uche (19) and Obafemi Martins (18) complete the top five list. Meanwhile, other ex-internationals have backed Osimhen to improve after he enjoyed a scoring streak with the Eagles. Former U-23 midfielder and Beijing 2008 Olympics bronze medalist Femi Ajilore said: “This performance will boost his confidence and of course, Osimhen is one of our best strikers at the moment.
Scoring four goals is a good way to re-establish yourself on the national stage. He can only get better.†Azubuike Egwuekwe, a member of the 2013 AFCON winning squad, added: “I know he's a fantastic striker and I'm not surprised by his performance. Its level is currently one of the best in the world. He plays for Napoli and is doing well, it's great that he's bringing this form to the national team. “Some players score goals for their clubs but not for their national teams. Kudos to him for bringing that goal-scoring form to the national team.â€
