High court dismisses cybercrime case against Agba Jalingo

A cybercrime prosecution against CrossRiverWatch publisher Agba Jalingo was dismissed by an Abuja federal high court. Jalingo was brought to Abuja after being apprehended by the police on August 19, 2022, at his Lagos home.

Elizabeth, Frank Ayade's wife, filed a petition charging defamation of character, which led to his detention. Ben Ayade, the former governor of the state of Cross River, has a brother named Frank.

Following his arraignment on a two-count charge centering on false publishing against Elizabeth, Jalingo was placed on detention in prison in March 2023. The publisher entered a not guilty plea to the allegations.

Section 24(1)b of the Cybercrimes (prohibition, prevention, etc.) Act 2015 was allegedly violated by the offences. The lawsuit against Jalingo was dropped by presiding judge Joyce Abdulmalik during the Monday court session.
