Hoodlums attack ADP supporters in Lagos, injure five
In an attack on African Democratic Party supporters on Thursday in the Lekki neighborhood of Lagos State, at least five persons were hurt.
PUNCH While the party members were returning from their evening campaign event at the Maruwa end of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, some louts attacked them, according to Metro.
A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed that some of them were hurt and that some others had their things taken.
“The supporters were coming out of a street around the Maruwa bus stop when some boys emerged from nowhere and accosted them. This led to a confrontation and before we knew it, the boys started to attack them.
“Five people were injured and most of them were females. Some of the supporters also lost their phones in the process,†the eyewitness disclosed.
The unfortunate ones were overpowered and captured by the party supporters, who then took them to a nearby police station. Some of the hoodlums reportedly later fled the scene of the attack.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police public relations officer, confirmed the occurrence.
He said, “The incident was reported to the police around 6:30 pm. Three phones were stolen and one laptop damaged.â€
According to The PUNCH, the Lagos police had confirmed that no fewer than four people had been hurt in an attack on Peter Obi's Labor Party supporters.
State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin called the attack on Obi's supporters "regrettable," adding that it took place about 15 kilometers from the rally site and that the State Criminal Investigations Department would take over the investigation in an effort to capture and prosecute the attackers.
The attack took place in the Ilasan neighborhood of the Eti-Osa Local Government, and the Labour Party's Jakande Ward Chairman alerted authorities.
