Hoodlums stab 27-year-old man in Lagos

Following his trauma at the hands of several hoodlums who attacked him on Saturday, a man, who gave his name only as Omotayo, expressed anxiety after numerous people in the Mile 12 area of Lagos urged him not to return to the area anytime soon.

The victim, who is 27 years old, told PUNCH Metro in an interview on Tuesday that he was on his way to a market near Mile 12 to buy a device when several people who were rumoured to be thugs called him.

Because he had no business with them and believed they were planning to rob him, he claimed he ignored them.

He claimed that after some time had passed, one of them located him at the store where he had been purchasing the light while holding a broken bottle.

He said, “That day, I was going to buy a reading lamp. I stopped at the Mile 12 market. Some boys said I should come but I ignored their summon and told them not to call me again.

“After some time, one of them entered the shop with a broken bottle and ordered me to come out of the place. He said he would destroy the things in the shop if I didn’t come outside.

“The owner of the shop told me to leave when the guy kept threatening and shouting that he would destroy things.”

Before he knew it, he claimed, another group of roughly seven individuals—possibly members of the other man's gang—arrived on the scene.

“They started hitting me all over my body. When I realised the situation was becoming a matter of life and death, I tried to defend myself with an item I found around. But they overpowered me, they stabbed me all over my body, I was in the pool of blood,” he told PUNCH Metro.

Speaking further, the victim said, “After they took my phone and other things and left me, I managed to see someone who helped me to call my mother whose number I could recall.”

The victim said he had moved to an unnamed location for additional treatment because he felt his life was in danger. He was later hospitalized at Helaal Specialist Hospital in the Mile 12 area.

A two-and-a-half-minute video of the victim receiving medical attention in the hospital showed bandages covering his face, head, and arms while the doctor sutured a section of his arm.

Omotayo claimed he had not notified the police because he had been taken immediately to the hospital and needed to put his own safety first.
