House of Reps visit Dangote Petroleum refinery in Lagos
Led by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, the House of Representatives leadership paid a visit to the $20 billion Dangote Petroleum refinery located in Lagos State.
Around eleven a.m. on Saturday, the legislators arrived at the refinery in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos, where they were greeted by Aliko Dangote, the president of the Dangote Group, and senior business officials.
During their visit, the MPs are anticipated to tour the refinery, which produces 650,000 barrels of petrol per day, and discuss plans to begin supplying petrol next month.
After the Senate leadership, led by Senate President Godswill Akpaio, visited the refinery in June, this visit signifies the second time this year that federal lawmakers will visit the complex.
Days prior to the legislator's visit, Farouk Ahmed, the CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Authority, asserted that the diesel generated by the Dangote refinery has a high sulphur concentration, measuring roughly 1,000 parts per million.
Additionally, Ahmed said that the Federal Government would not halt the importation of petroleum products, arguing that Nigeria could not rely on a single refinery to supply its food needs.
According to him, the refinery, which has been selling aviation fuel and diesel in Nigeria for months, is still in the pre-commissioning phase and does not currently have a licence.
