I can't pay N70,000 minimum wage —Gombe governor Inuwa Yahaya
According to Inuwa Yahaya, the governor of Gombe State, it will be challenging to achieve the N70,000 minimum wage due to the state's meagre funding.
President Bola Tinubu recently approved the minimum wage after reaching a consensus with joint labour groups.
Speaking on Tuesday in the Gombe Government House banquet hall at a meeting with stakeholders for the next countrywide #Endbadgovernance protest, Yahaya said, "I cannot pay the N70,000 minimum wage, and I suspect many other states are in the same predicament."
Yahaya complimented the federal government for taking the effort to provide rice to the states. But he was worried about the delay in getting these necessary goods to Gombe.
He said, “We are yet to receive the Federal Government’s 20 trucks of rice to Gombe State.”
Despite this, he highlighted the state's dedication to helping its people, mentioning past palliative distributions and continuing investments in agriculture, education, healthcare, and human capital development, among other areas.
