ICPC discovers billions in Buratai's home, gives details.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses (ICPC) on Friday clarified the report that it recovered N170 million cash, $220,965 G-Wagon from the residence of Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai.
Reports had it said that the ICPC recovered N1.85 billion from the home and office that belongs to Buratai in Abuja.
The huge sum said to have been recovered was part of the billions of naira earmarked by the government led by President Muhammadu Buhari for the purchase of arms and ammunition.
But commission spokeswoman, Azuka Ogugua, denied that the house belonged to Buratai.
According to Ogugua, available facts reveal that the property belongs to the owner of K Salam Construction Company, a military contractor.
"The attention of the Independent Commission Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses (ICPC) has been drawn to some inaccurate and fabricated reports in the media of the seizure of billions of nairas worth of cash, dollars and Rolex watches found in a property in Abuja.
The Commission would like to note that on Thursday, June 16, 2022, between 17:00 and 00:00, ICPC officers searched a property at Wuse 2, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on suspicion of money laundering. The facts currently available indicate that the property belongs to the owner of K Salam Construction Company, a military contractor,†Ogugua said.
The commission added that it recovered N175,706,500; $220,965; G wagon; 2022 editions of BMW and Mercedes Benz cars; customized mobile phones; several designer wristwatches, three Rolexes and some house ownership documents.
