Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre profess that their skincare product is not gender bias

Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina, who have just launched their beauty line S'able Labs, confirm that what sets their product apart is that there is no gender bias.

Appropriately, the Elbas want to refute the widely held notion of self-care. Sabrina remarks, “The idea that self-care is all about you “feels like an almost selfish way of” thinking. So, how does unselfish care for oneself manifest?”

Idris adds, "I don't want men to feel like skincare is only for women and vice versa.

"Elbas' goal was to work with small farmers from around the world, especially in Africa, to develop gender-neutral, multipurpose skincare with ethically sourced ingredients and allow them to honour their heritage.

In an interview with BAZAAR, Sabrina said that the birth of her skincare products came from frustration: ""Not having found a product or community that spoke to me personally as a woman of colour and Idris as a man. Seeing that and then combining it with a love of heritage and wanting “A Beauty” to emerge as a continent with a wealth of super ingredients presented the perfect opportunity.

She added that “the brand's skincare has the tagline 'wellness for all beings' as they believe that in this day and age it's better to create nothing than to do it in a way that isn't inclusive."

During the interview, Idris Elba said, "As an actor, my skin is always a topic of conversation when I'm in the makeup chair. I didn't really have a dialogue about skincare, but I picked up one - an ideal basis for co-developing a skincare brand."

He further noted, "I think the talk about men's skincare is always silly - the way it's marketed. I think a lot of guys think that's cool: oh it says invigorating, great, that sounds like me, but I think the consumer awareness now is that we want to understand a little bit more of what's going on.

With the innovation of S'able Labs' marketing, the pair believe their product can "de-genderize the conversation about skincare."
