IGP Egbotekun appoints new CP for Rivers, other states
Olatunji Disu is the new Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, having been appointed by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun himself.
As part of ongoing efforts to bolster security, combat violent crimes, and improve the best possible coordination of police operations throughout Nigeria, IGP Egbetokun also named seven police officers to head various commands.
The new appointments were contained in a signal that said the redeployment of the senior police officers is with immediate effect.
It stated that the senior police officers' redeployment is effective right now.
The police chief issued a directive to the newly appointed CPs, asking them to exhibit professional competence in the new offices they will be managing around the nation.
A week after Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara accused some police officers of trying to kill him when he went to assess the extent of damage done to the State House of Assembly after an explosion that significantly damaged the hallowed chambers, the new CP for Rivers State will take CP Nwonyi Emeka's place.
Additionally, the State House of Assembly had attempted to impeach Governor Fubara, sparking days of protests by young people throughout the state that resulted in 150 youths being arrested and one youth dying from a police bullet.
Barely seven months have passed since Disu and thirty-two other people were promoted from deputy commissioner of police to commissioner of police. The IGP then appointed Disu as his principal staff, with the responsibility of overseeing and managing the security team that is attached to the IGP's office among other things.
Disu had previously held the position of Deputy Head of the Unit in the State Criminal Investigation Department for Rivers Command and was the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
