IGP Egbotekun disband Edo officers who ran over civillian

The team of seven officers who accidentally ran over a citizen named Success Ehimare in Edo State has been sacked by acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.

Early this month, a frightening video of cops running over Ehimare for roughly 15 seconds was recorded by an eyewitness.

The disciplinary action by the IGP was revealed in a statement by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a police spokesperson.

“In a bold move to address the unprofessional conduct of some Police Officers attached to the Edo State Police Command who were responsible for running over a citizen at Ekpoma, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has taken the decisive action of disbanding the team forthwith,” Adejobi said.

He claimed that IGP Egbetokun's action intends to normalise and standardise police activities in the axis and rebuild public confidence in the Police Force.

Additionally, after reporting to the Police headquarters in Abuja on Monday, the agents who ran over a man in handcuffs named Ehimare in the Ekpoma region of Edo state on June 29 are currently dealing with disciplinary charges and administrative procedures.

The IGP's decision to hold personnel accountable for their acts, which will never be accepted in the Nigeria Police Force, is demonstrated by this action, according to Adejobi.

The Inspector-General of Police, he said, has reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the highest levels of professionalism and ethics.

Additionally, Egbetokun has urged the general public to support police officers at all times as they carry out their official responsibilities.
