IGP stops policemen in mufti from carrying firearms
According to a directive from IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, "no operative should be seen carrying assault arms (rifles) while dressed in civilian attire (mufti) going forward."
In addition, he emphasised the Force's obligation to protect human rights and sent a strong warning to all personnel about grave violations of those rights.
Egbetokun, who received numerous accusations about human rights abuses through the Force's complaint channels, expressed disapproval of such actions yesterday in a virtual meeting he called with strategic police managers.
