Imo LP governorship candidate is dead
Humphrey Anumudu, a Labour Party candidate for governor in the upcoming primary election in Imo State, was discovered dead at his home.
Anumudu had just returned from a meeting at the LP secretariat in Abuja when he was discovered dead in his house in Lagos.
The dead was a native of the ancient Mbieri Kingdom, which is located in Imo State's Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
The auto merchant died on Friday night in Lagos, according to a family friend who spoke to The PUNCH on the condition of anonymity.
He noted that his passing was unexpected.
Anumudu was a multibillionaire businessman and politician who had been running for the state's governorship since 1998 until his death.
He was reportedly the victor of the Peoples Democratic Party's primary for governor in the state in 1998 before Achike Udenwa was given the ticket and went on to lead the state from 1999 to 2007.
Since that time, he has been running for the state's top seat.
He ran for governor in 2019 as the Zenith Labour party candidate.
He was the CEO of Globe Motors and a well-known figure in the legal profession.
