INEC suspends electoral officer over missing ballot papers in Plateau
Due to allegations of missing ballots used in the rerun elections for the Plateau North Senatorial district and the Jos North/Bassa Federal constituency, the Independent National Electoral Commission has suspended Fred Ogboji, the Electoral Officer for the Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau State.
The state's election was clouded by controversy, according to Daily Trust, because there weren't enough ballots in several voting places in Jos North LGA.
Due to the event, the electoral commission was forced to postpone until Sunday the rerun elections in three Naraguta B Ward voting units and thirteen Tudun Wada/Kabong Ward polling units, all located in Jos North LGA.
On behalf of the state resident electoral commissioner, INEC Head of Department, Electoral Operations, Isa Abah Idakwo, wrote to Ogboji, according to information obtained by Daily Trust. In the letter, the official was instructed to transfer his responsibilities to the next senior officer so that the commission could finish the remaining portion of the election and conduct a thorough investigation.
