INEC to carry out supplementary election in Doguwa constituency
In the Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in Kano State, additional elections will be held, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This choice was made following a review of the local election results by Ibrahim Yakasai, the returning officer for the federal constituency elections held on February 25.
Yakasai claims that the commission had gone over the preliminary findings, which he reportedly made public under pressure. He claimed that INEC has evaluated the results in accordance with the requirements of the election laws.
"The total number of votes domiciled in the polling stations that were annulled had buried the margin of votes difference cast in favor of the tandem of APC and NNPP," the speaker continued.
He added that, in contrast to the over 4,000 vote difference between the APC and NNPP, 6,917 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) had been collected in the 13 polling places that had been canceled.
In order to decide the victor of the Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency election held on February 25, Yakasai stated that INEC will hold supplemental elections in the affected units.
Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the controversial House of Representatives leader who hails from the district, was taken off the list of election winners by INEC.
