INEC under pressure to deliver free, fair election
A free, fair, and credible election must be held in 2023, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner in charge of the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), made this claim in an appearance on Channels TV's Politics Today on Friday.
Okoye claims that the commission is under pressure to hold free, fair, transparent, and inclusive elections.
He said, “Yes, we are under pressure from the Nigerian people to deliver a credible, fair and transparent election in 2023, and that’s the only pressure I know about.â€
However, Okoye has promised Nigerians that the Commission will hold a credible general election in 2023 that complies with all recognised international criteria.
In the meantime, the INEC National Commissioner rejected a recent proposal to fire INEC Chairman Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, stressing that the procedure to do so is rigorous.
