Irish chef Alan Fisher breaks Hilda Baci's GWR for longest cooking marathon

Alan Fisher, an Irish chef living in Japan, has shattered two records for the longest cooking marathon held by a single person.

The GWR announced this on its website on Tuesday.

Fisher broke the previous record of 93 hours 11 minutes set earlier this year by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, cooking nonstop for 119 hours and 57 minutes.

The Irishman also broke the previous record for the longest baking marathon, which stood at 31 hours and 16 minutes, by baking for 47 hours and 21 minutes.

Amazingly, Fisher spent more than 160 hours in the kitchen nonstop while attempting to break both records.

The Tokyo resident serves traditional Irish food at his restaurant, Kyojin Stewhouse, where he accomplished these feats. Fisher accepted the challenge of getting better from the pandemic setbacks that almost caused his company to close.

The chef prepared over 550 kg of food and 3,360 portions of 32 Irish recipes in order to break the previous record. Fisher claimed that despite his exhaustion and hallucinations, the support of his neighbourhood kept him going.

“I was representing myself, my family, and Irish food, and sharing our story. I couldn’t give up. That was the only option,” he stated. Guinness praised Fisher’s “incredible feat of endurance.”
