Isese Celebration: Kwara police arrest Islamic cleric
The Kwara State Police Command issued an arrest warrant for an Islamic cleric named Ayodeji Sala after he allegedly threatened several traditionalists in Ilorin.
Ayodeji was detained by the police on Tuesday night at his hiding place in Ilorin before being paraded at the Police Command headquarters in Ilorin on Wednesday.
Speaking while being paraded by the police, Sala claimed he was unaware that his activity was risky and may disturb the peace.
Ayodeji, who gave off the impression of being sober and repentant, stated that the state commissioner of police, Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, had neither authorised him to threaten traditionalists or known about his visit to their store, as seen in the film.
Since he had never been arrested before, he begged Nigerians, the state administration, the state police command, and the traditionalists engaged in the situation to forgive him.
When Ayodeji visited the traditional religious followers' shop in Ilorin, he made threats against them. He also instructed the landlords of the Alaran property, Ilorin, where the traditionalists sell TV sets, to evict them and return the rent money. the actions that were performed.
The suspect's family was told to present him on Wednesday by the police chief at a meeting on Monday.
She described the suspect as a “terrorist who is on the wanted list of the state police commandâ€.
The police chief claimed the cleric's attitude may lead to a breakdown in law and order in the state and chastised the cleric's family for not warning their son away from what she characterised as his criminal activity.
The Alaran family received criticism from the police commissioner for evicting the couple from the neighbourhood and for paying them back the rent for the shop against their wishes.
However, in response to inquiries from reporters at the police headquarters, Sala said that he was unaware that what he was doing was risky and would spark a religious conflict in Ilorin.
