Isese Day: Gov Abiodun declares Monday public holiday
The annual Isese Day will be celebrated on Monday, August 21, 2023, according to Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun.
Isese Day is set aside by adherents of traditional religions to honour Yoruba customs and culture.
On March 7th, 2023, Governor Abiodun issued an executive order designating the 20th of August of each year as Isese Day in Ogun State.
On July 11, the state House of Assembly approved the executive order.
In a statement released on Saturday by his chief press secretary, Mr. Lekan Adeniran, Governor Abiodun complimented the coexistence of all religious practitioners in the Gateway State.
He claimed that the recognition of Isese Day was given in order to uphold the custom of honouring our people's traditions and to maintain peace and harmony between the state's three main religions.
In the state, all religions will be supported and respected, Prince Abiodun emphasised.
He also reaffirmed the administration's commitment to fostering, preserving, and advancing our people's culture and traditions.
While congratulating the adherents of traditional religion on the anniversary, he also asked them to rejoice in a dignified manner and avoid actions that could endanger the state's current tranquillity.
