Israel, Hamas agree to cease fire deal
After talks led by the prime minister of Qatar, Israel and Hamas have agreed on a truce and the release of hostages.
Though it stated that it hoped the agreement would be finalised on Wednesday night, the Israeli prime minister's office pointed out that there are still "a number of unresolved clauses.
US President-elect Donald Trump announced on social media, “We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East.”
According to reports, the agreement has a three-phase plan. 33 Hamas captives are anticipated to be traded for Palestinian inmates in Israeli detention during the first six weeks of the ceasefire.
Negotiations for the second phase will resume two weeks later, focused on the release of remaining captives, the withdrawal of Israeli troops, and building a “sustainable calm.”
The restoration of Gaza, which is expected to take years, and the return of any remaining hostage bodies will be the topics of the third and final phase.
The names of Palestinian prisoners scheduled for release will then be made public by the Israeli government, giving the relatives of the victims 48 hours to file an appeal.
