Israeli airstrike kills at least 27 in central Gaza
At least 27 people were murdered in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a house in the centre of a Gaza refugee camp; the majority of the victims were women and children, according to a local hospital, as reported by The Associated Press. A higher death toll was suggested by the Civil Defence.
The attack occurred on Sunday while Israel's officials expressed disagreements on who should manage the Palestinian territories following the war, which is currently in its eighth month, and combat raged throughout northern Gaza.
Additionally, it coincided with a visit by an American envoy to the area, who met with a number of regional authorities during the middle of the week.
In order to negotiate an ambitious American plan for Saudi Arabia to recognise Israel and assist the Palestinian Authority in governing Gaza in exchange for a road to ultimate statehood, U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan was slated to meet with top Israeli authorities on Sunday.
