Jandor, Rhodes-Vivour file petition against Sanwo-Olu
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party's (LP) candidate for governor in Lagos State, has petitioned the Lagos Governorship Election Tribunal to overturn the results of the March 18, 2023 election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was deemed ineligible to run for office by Rhodes-Vivour in his appeal dated April 9, 2023.
In addition to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, and the APC are the first through fourth respondents in the lawsuit.
The LP candidate complained in his appeal that he was upset with the election's results and Sanwo-Olu, the second respondent, being declared the winner.
Likewise, the Allied People's Movement (APM), the Action People's Party (APP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran (also known as Jandor), have petitioned the tribunal.
In the petition marked: EPT/LAG/GOV/01/2023, Adediran and the PDP are claiming that Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Hamzat, were not qualified to contest the election.
Adediran prayed that all of the votes cast for them in the election would be deemed useless.
Also, according to Jandor, Rhodes-Vivour was ineligible to run at the time of the election.
He claimed that he was basing his prayers on what he claimed to be a serious violation of INEC rules and the electoral law.
In the same vein, Allied People’s Movement (APM) in its four grounds of the petition stated: “The second respondent (Sanwo-Olu) was, at the time of the election, not qualified to contest the election.
“The election was invalid because of corrupt practices or non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.
