Judge rejects Amber Heard's request for new Johnny Depp trial
A Virginia judge on Wednesday denied Amber Heard's request for a retrial in her legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp, refuting her complaints about one of the jurors' identities.
Judge Penney Azcarate denied Heard's motion for mistrial, which was conditional on an allegation by Heard's attorneys that juror #15 was not called to jury duty and that someone else appeared during the trial who shared his name and address, according to the Associated Press.
In an order, Azcarate noted that the juror in question "was vetted, sat before the entire jury, considered, and reached a verdict" and said the "only evidence" showed that juror #15 and the rest of the jury "followed their oaths, instructions and orders of the court."
Azcarate said the court was "bound by the competent jury's decision," meaning the verdict and the $10.4 million verdict stand.
According to The Guardian, Heard can still appeal the verdict.
