Justice Tanko Muhammed resigns

Judge Tanko Muhammad has resigned as Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Citing sources, Channels Television confirmed he had resigned Sunday night due to ill health.

When contacted, the CJN's Special Advisor on Media and Communications, Ahuraka Yusuf Isah, said, "All I know is that he will be declaring a workshop open at the NJI (National Judicial Institute) this morning."

Other attempts to get in touch with close associates of the CJN, such as Dr. Miike Ozekhome (SAN) proved unsuccessful as they would not take their calls.

Following his resignation, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola will be the next incumbent Chief Justice of Nigeria, stepping in after Senate confirmation.
