Kaduna police arrest two for burying man alive

Two people are under arrest by the Kaduna State Police Command on charges of burying a man alive in Zaria.

The development was verified by the Command's spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, in a statement released in Kaduna on Thursday. 

According to Hassan, the two suspects' apprehension in Zaria on suspicion of collaboration followed a widely shared video that featured a victim buried with only his head missing. 

He claimed that as soon as the police saw the video, they launched an investigation to find the 20-year-old victim, who lived in Gauraki village in Kufena Ward, Zaria council area, and potentially apprehend the perpetrators. Eventually, they succeeded in their search.

The spokesperson went on to say that the victim and the two accused were employed as labourers on an Abuja building site, according to the preliminary investigation. 

According to him, one of the suspects' N35,000 cell phone was taken from the location where they were all staying. 

According to Hassan, the victim was thought to have stolen the phone, leading the two suspects to decide that the victim would use her daily pay cheque to purchase a replacement phone. 

He claimed that the victim, intrigued by the suspects' choice, left Abuja and travelled to Zaria, where the siblings' suspicions finally followed him.

“On Aug. 10, the suspects located their victim and forcefully took him to an uncompleted building and dug the ground akin to a grave.

“They bound his hands and feet, covered his mouth with a piece of clothing, placed him inside the hole and returned the earth, leaving only his head outside

“They left their victim in the said condition until a passerby heard his groans and alerted the public before he was rescued,” he said.

According to Hassan, during questioning, the suspects—who were eventually taken into custody—admitted to carrying out the crime.
