Kaduna refinery to be completed by the end of 2024— Lokpobiri
The Kaduna refinery is expected to start operations by the end of 2024, according to Heineken Lokpobiri, the minister of state for petroleum resources (oil).
During a Saturday progress evaluation of the ongoing quick-fix project at the Kaduna refinery, Lokpobiri provided the timeline in a statement released by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.
A group chief executive officer of NNPC named Lokpobiri, Mele Kyari, together with other executive directors, conducted an inspection of the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemicals Company Limited (KRPC).
He claimed that the "significant level of progress" he saw on the tour was the reason for the timeline.
The federal government will continue to support the Kaduna refinery, according to Lokpobiri, in order to guarantee that it reopens before the year ends.
The minister promised to hold important participants in the refinery's rehabilitation process responsible for ensuring the project is completed on schedule.
According to Lokpobiri, the refinery must be restarted immediately in order to support both the country's economic growth and energy security, both of which are prerequisites for sustainable development.
Kyari promised that all hands are on deck and that the fuel facility will start operating on schedule.
The necessary equipment for the quick-fix operations is already in place, according to Kyari, who also stated that the repair will guarantee the refinery's daily production of 60,000 barrels.
“We are very confident that we will get the appropriate financing to get to the end of it, and ultimately, we will start to deliver value to Nigerians again,†he said.
“We plan the quick fix for 60,000 barrels per day so that we can start making money from this plant and we can continue the other part of the refinery to bring it up to its full-fledged capacity.
“This will also tally with the completion of the Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) on the pipeline.â€
This, Kyari said, will result in a reliable pipeline delivery infrastructure.
