Kaduna senator, Ibrahim Mustapha defects to ADC

The senator for Kaduna North, Ibrahim Mustapha, has switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin read Mustapha's letter of defection on the Senate floor on Thursday.

The congressman blamed the PDP's leadership problem for his choice.

“I write to inform you of my decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress. This decision is due to the leadership crisis affecting the party,” he said.

“Subsequently, after wide consultations with my constituents and political associates, I have decided to join the African Democratic Congress to further my political career.”

Mustapha expressed gratitude to PDP members for giving him the chance to work on the party's platform.

“However, I wish to express my profound gratitude to PDP members for the opportunity given to me to serve the nation,” he said.

“While thanking you for your understanding and your cooperation. Accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

In the midst of ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, the defection adds to the increasing number of parliamentarians quitting opposing parties.
