Kano anti-graft unearth 16,800 bags of diverted 50kg palliative
In a Kano city warehouse, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) discovered more than 16,800 bags of 50 kg rice bearing President Tinubu's image, worth at over N1 billion.
The revelation was made public by commission chairman Muhuyi Magaji on Tuesday, which prompted a press tour of the Ring Road warehouse. The rice, purportedly transported to the warehouse in 28 trailers with 600 bags each after being rebagged, was meant as a palliative measure by the federal government.
The bags had been repackaged under the name "Elephant Classic Parboiled Rice," bearing the image of President Tinubu and the words "Not For Sale; The Renewed Hope for Unity and Progress."
According to Magaji, who described the act as unlawful and disgusting, the finding came about as a result of tips from some good Kano residents.
The commission has apprehended one offender. The commission stated that more arrests are anticipated as a result of his investigation.
“The 16,800 bags were meant for the last Ramadan festival, but were diverted to this warehouse and are being rebagged into another label bags to be resold.
“The rice has the name of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, bodily written: His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Not For Sale; 50kg Ramadan Kareem.
“However, this bags of rice were being rebagged into another bags labeled: Big Mama Rice, Premium Quality and another bag tagged; Elephant Classic Parboiled Rice, 100% sortexed,” Barrister Magaji queried.
