Kano Police arrest three suspects with N219bn counterfeit money
Three people were detained by the Kano State Police Command on Tuesday for possessing N129 billion worth of counterfeit money.
Speaking to reporters in Kano on Tuesday, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the command's spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and provided a breakdown of the funds, stating that they included US dollars, CFA, and Naira in addition to other currencies taken from another foreign exchange broker.
“Counterfeit currencies equivalent to a total sum of N129bn were recovered”, Kiyawa said.
The PPRO broke down the counterfeit money into three categories: N1,443,000, CFA51,970,000, and $3,366,000.
Additionally, Kiyawa revealed that the two people detained with the counterfeit currency and the person from whom they were taken have been caught and are being held by the police, assisting in the investigation of the real counterfeit money manufacturers.
Six live rounds, three tricycles, eight motorcycles, and three packages containing 175 wraps of dried leaves that were thought to be Indian hemp were also found by the command.
In addition, he disclosed that the command's operatives had retrieved 250 pieces of diazepam tablets, 278 sheep, and seven cattle.
